Toronto's newest public realm project – the Toronto Book Garden - honours books and offers a glimpse into the city’s literary history. In 2014, Toronto City Council decided to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the City of Toronto Book Awards through the establishment of the Toronto Book Garden.
The Toronto Book Garden includes paving stones engraved with the names of all recipients of the City of Toronto Book Award back to 1974 when the award was first made. New stones will be added each year for future recipients of the Toronto Book Award.
City of Toronto partners for this project, overseen by Transportation Services, Public Realm Section were Harbourfront Centre, which provided the location, Waterfront Toronto, responsible for design and installation, the International Festival of Authors, The Word On The Street Toronto, the City of Toronto Book Awards, Brookfield, and the Ward 20 (Trinity-Spadina) office.
